Plant Manager

GPAC is a national executive search firm for the nation's premier automotive manufacturing and industry professionals. GPAC has been retained by a confidential client to conduct a search for the position of Plant Manager for a new operation in northern Arizona. Training, preparation, and operation of this site will begin immediately.

The Plant Manager is responsible for the planning, direction, and coordination of plant manufacturing operations by formulating specific site policies, managing the daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human assets.

Location: Flagstaff Arizona

Compensation: Competitive Salary, Bonus, Benefits.

Start Date: Immediate hire

Experience of the Plant Manager:

  • 10 or more years of experience in automotive component manufacturing, which includes automation, metal machining, stamping and bending.
  • 5 or more years of Plant Management experience.
  • Proven record of Continuous Improvement in quality, productivity and cost reduction.
  • Significant background in Engineering is required.

Education: B.S. degree in Engineering

Knowledge: Significant knowledge of automation machinery, processes, programs is required. LEAN manufacturing principles. ERP/MRP systems.

Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated abilities to communicate, lead and motivate staff and hourly employees with excellent interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Duties of the Plant Manager:

  • Oversee production activities directly related to making metal products, or providing services. Provide leadership in the areas of quality assurance, production, purchasing and continuous improvement. Ensure that a Quality System is maintained in accordance with TS/QS/ISO 9000 standards.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of business Units and Departments concerned with the production, pricing, sales, or distribution of products. Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with senior management and staff members as necessary.
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement. Direct and coordinate plant financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.
  • Manage on-site staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties. Includes addressing employee issues regarding their performance, attendance and compliance with established policies and procedures. Determine staffing requirements, and interview, hire and train new employees, or oversee those personnel processes along with HR.
  • Occasionally locate, select, and procure machinery and equipment for replacement in current or new production operations.

  • Authority of the Plant Manager:

    Authority to conduct interviews and make decisions regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, discipline, or termination of employees along with HR. Authority to appraise employee productivity and efficiency and recommend merit wage increases.

    Authority to change work instructions, if required by situation. Can issue "OK to run" instructions on jobs with problems, based on available information.

    Authority to immediately correct safety issues.

    Authorized to purchase materials & supplies within budget constraints in support of plant operations initiatives.

    Physical Demands: There are physical demands as necessary to perform management duties; which may involve standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and exposure to plant-related noise levels.
