Job Description

Under minimal supervision of the Cell Leader and General Manager, the Machinist-Level 4 has the Set-Up/Programming capabilities and is able to operate a variety of multi-axis machinery to include either mills or lathes to manufacture precision parts. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. May direct and lead the work of others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Verify and troubleshoot MOMs to ensure the correct manufacturing method based on part complexity.
  • Perform all set-up conditions and make offset adjustments to operate machine tools with no supervision.
  • Must be proficient in 3, 4, 5 axis programming using CAD/CAM software.
  • Must be able to create a model from blueprint.
  • Identify and troubleshoot tooling problems related to different materials while achieving optimal performance working toward quoted machine times.
  • Assist co-workers on correct procedures.
  • Set-up and edit existing programs as required, and operate equipment as assigned; will require more than one machine.
  • Must own a complete set of machinist tools. All special tools, precision measuring instruments and equipment are furnished.
  • Must have understanding of the characteristics of various metals.
  • Must have the knowledge and capability to create fixtures from scratch using manual and CNC machining.
  • Must be able to use all fixtures and work holding devices.
  • Cycle machine through operation sequence to check fixture and work positions, tooling, clearances, speeds, feeds, etc.
  • Make appropriate adjustments to correct deviations from print specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with the Quality Department regarding manufacturing process as it relates to CM reports and granite checks.
  • Recognize, correct and document inspection records.
  • Completes any and all paperwork as required; Job Traveler, VISTA, etc.
  • Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures.
  • Comply with all quality and safety regulations and procedures.


  • Understand and comprehend industrial math.
  • Strong knowledge of technical GD&T drawing reading skills.
  • Must be able to understand quality standards and gauging.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds intermittently.
  • Ability to stand 100% of work day; occasionally bend or twist.
