Job Description

A Top-50 national builder is urgently seeking a Project Accountant for their New England territory. This company offers excellent growth opportunities as well as a competitive compensation package. Additionally, this position will allow 3 days/week of remote work from home.

Responsible for working in a team-based environment on the accounting and forecasting of all development properties from the time of initial offer through the stages of acquisition, construction, cost certification and breakeven. This person will be a resource for project managers, property management and accounting on all development deals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (1-3 Years On-The-Job Experience Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
    • Production/Custom home accounting experience is not a fit for this position
  • Primary Responsibilities
    • Work with Project Directors, lenders, and investors to process monthly construction draw/requisition requests in accordance to the Construction Loan Agreement and Investor benchmarks for equity releases. Collaborate with the Project Directors to maintain all sources and uses.
    • Perform all Property Accountant responsibilities during the rehab period. This includes: review of cash position and General Ledger balances; prepare journal entries; reconcile bank accounts; tie-out A/P and A/R, calculate and process monthly management fees and accounting fees; monitor security deposit liability to ensure it is fully funded; and post vacancy monthly.
    • Complete comprehensive audit workpaper packages in accordance with GAAP and respond to questions from CPA firms in a timely manner and in accordance with deadlines.
    • Prepare and coordinate financial materials with the Project Director and Financial Analyst for the Quarterly Development Meeting; ensure, that any changes identified during the meeting have been implemented.
    • Prepare cost certification report workpapers.
    • Oversee compliance with mortgage agreements and investor benchmarks for equity releases. This includes the preparation of debt service coverage calculations for review.
    • Ensure all real estate tax, insurance and mortgage payments are made timely.
  • Additional Required Qualifications/Skills
    1. Experience with Microsoft Office Suites including Word & Excel.
    2. Strong understanding of text book accounting fundamentals.
    3. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
    4. Ability to focus, achieve deadlines and work with a dynamic team of professionals.
    5. Positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications/Skills
    1. Residential Real Estate and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
    2. Yardi or RealPage Software
