Job Description

A valued client, in Southern California, is looking to add an Electrical Estimator. Electrical Estimators support the company goals by preparing estimates, bid packages, soliciting, evaluating and leveling bids. Other duties include working with designers and trade partners to interpret the bid documents and assist with design decisions while being cognizant of the cost and schedule impacts. Estimators are also responsible for being knowledgeable on local market conditions, material prices, vendors, new products and trade partner capabilities.

Essential Job Functions Include

  • Read and understand plans and specifications for major/complex projects
  • Prepare a thorough take-off of quantities for their scope of work, based on the projects documents
  • Be able to thoroughly review subcontractor pricing and prepare a comprehensive bid tab
  • Proficiency in computer skills. Able to adapt and learn programs such as On Screen Take-Off, Sage and 3D programs such as Scenario
  • Understanding the importance of subcontractor/supplier relationships to the ongoing success of Hensel Phelps The position may require the new hire to be assigned to a project with specific badging or other security requirements, which may require the Company, Owner, or third party to conduct a criminal or other background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess good communications skills and be detail oriented
  • Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates
  • Preferable to have 3-4 years' experience in electrical and low voltage design or estimating on large commercial construction projects
  • A 4 year degree in Electrical, Construction Management or equivalent experience.
  • Have experience working on design-build projects
