Job Description

Purpose of the Position:

The principal function of the Mortgage Loan Production Manager is to insure that the department Originates quality mortgage loan applications at competitive terms and cost with exceptional customer service by: 1) Analyzing, recommending and implementing mortgage loan products and 2) Providing sales and job performance coaching to Mortgage Loan Officers and staff. 3) Developing and monitoring efficient origination and processing procedures in collaboration with the Operations Manager and 4) Ensuring the quality of loan originations. The Mortgage Loan Origination Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance with operational and regulatory requirements in the origination of mortgage loans. The Mortgage Loan Production Manager oversees all sales and production activity for all loans and loan types. The Mortgage Loan Origination Manager is responsible for adequate and competent staffing to ensure exceptional customer service.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyze, recommend and manage implementation of mortgage loan products by:
    • Analyzing programs offered by investors or other third party mortgage loan originators for appropriate participation by the bank; coordinating implementation with appropriate departments within the bank; training employees; recommending marketing efforts.
    • Ensuring the bank portfolio products meet the needs of bank customers and comply with all regulatory requirements
    • Ensuring that bank portfolio products are competitive within the market areas for price, term and rate. Recommending changes and enhancements as appropriate.
    • Develop and implement periodic marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring members of the Mortgage Loan Production team
    • Develop and improve sales and job performance of Mortgage Loan Originators by:
    • Providing access to appropriate internal and external training and education opportunities
    • Coaching for sales and performance results
  • Working with the Operations Manager, evaluate, recommend and coordinate all policy and procedural recommendations for the Mortgage Lending department. Collaborate with other areas of the bank to include Private Bank, Loan Administration, Audit, Compliance and Retail Banking
    • Lead the Mortgage Policy Committee.
    • Review policy annually and recommend changes as appropriate
    • Ensure origination staff is kept current and properly trained on all procedural changes
    • Consistently monitor processes to improve efficiency
  • Ensure regulatory compliance including but not limited to Reg B, Reg C, Reg X, Reg Z, Privacy, CIP, BSA
    • Maintain current knowledge and impact of regulatory changes and recommend appropriate action as necessary
    • Work with the Operations Manager to develop and maintain procedure manuals for operational and compliance functions within the department
    • Ensure staff is kept current on regulatory compliance
    • Participate in regular compliance and audit reviews
    • Respond to and correct and deficiencies in audits or compliance reviews
  • Assist all BNB MLOs to initiate, analyze and recommend mortgage loans for approval through available loan programs by:
    • Coaching the MLOs on interviewing applicants to develop financial and credit information
    • Helping them to analyze and evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate financing
    • Researching and recommending appropriate programs and terms and insuring the availability of the terms by completing applicable lock procedures
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable mortgage loan origination regulations and guidelines
  • Act as liaison for vendors and Investors related to the Mortgage Loan department
  • Monitor and report production to executive management
  • Supervise Mortgage Loan Origination staff to include preparing performance reviews and preparing and monitoring employee counseling documentation.
  • Participate actively in the bank's marketing program, community involvement projects and real estate financing organizations.
  • Register and maintain registry as a Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) with the Nationwide
  • Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry and in accordance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (the S.A.F.E. Act).
  • Meet and maintain financial responsibility, character and general fitness standards along with all other established requirements for an individual Loan Originator in accordance with Regulation Z
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

  • Department new loans funded, including Private Bank Loans, Secondary Market Loans and CRA Loans
  • Development of mortgage team members
  • Mortgage group contribution to net direct income
  • Special project implementation
  • Satisfactory audit, compliance and operations reviews

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 7-10 years mortgage loan origination experience with a bank or mortgage company
  • Strong familiarity with mortgage regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated sales skills and origination activity
  • Demonstrated experience in origination and processing of conventional mortgage products
  • Strong analytical skills; excellent written and verbal skills; problem solving; ability to work independently
  • 5 - 7 years supervisory experience in a mortgage origination environment including hiring and performance evaluation duties
  • Strong operations and compliance experience preferred

Education Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience is required
  • MBA or other financial certification preferred

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with personal computers including spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Experience with mortgage loan origination software
  • Experience with automated underwriting services such as FNMA Desktop underwriter
  • PowerPoint
