Job Description

The purpose of this role is to engineer new assemblies, develop new manufacturing processes and continuously improve the existing processes. This function will use engineering approaches throughout Manufacturing, Quality and Sales to offer solutions that increase safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness and production yields. Responsibilities will include supporting Sales opportunities by providing engineering expertise and solutions when reviewing customer requirements, internal capabilities and processing approach during quoting and costing activities.

Major Functions:

  • Safety
  • Optimize safety/minimize risk
  • Wear required PPE.
  • Adhere to required safety precautions.
  • Identify safety precautions for new equipment and processes.
  • Configuration Management
  • Confirm and approve dimensions, notes and features on customer drawings.
  • Create and/or approve internal drawings verifying realistic and achievable designs and tolerances.
  • Ensure selected material meets expected functions for complex assemblies.
  • Approve the required manufacturing processing method for complex assemblies.
  • Collaborate with Operations to determine content of all process related WI and pFEMA's.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Planner and Operations to create and/or revise internal routings, routing changes and BOM's to insure successful execution in manufacturing.
  • New Process Technology
  • Investigate and recommend new equipment and technologies to improve production.
  • Submit Capital Spending Requests (CSR) detailing the costs and benefits of proposed new equipment and technologies.
  • Assist in the installation and de-bugging of new equipment as required.Qualify new equipment and processes to validate performance and quality.
  • Create pFEMAs and work instructions for quality approval.
  • Design equipment, cycles and software.
  • Process Improvement and Automation
  • Recommend process changes to improve equipment or process efficiency.
  • Develop processes to improve cost, throughput and quality.
  • Collect data, document results and report findings.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate equipment and processes.
  • Design new and/or improved devices or equipment using Solidworks and create detailed drawings for the device to be produced.
  • Manage the design, fabrication, and qualification process from start to finish.
  • Obtain quotes and purchase materials for devices produced in house.
  • Obtain quotes, select a vendor and submit purchase requisitions for devices or equipment to be produced externally.
  • Assist in the installation, training, qualification and de-bugging of the device as required.
  • Revise or create new work instructions
