Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to sell and refer a wide variety of Bank products and services including deposit, consumer loan, life insurance, annuities and mutual funds. This position achieves goals through consultative selling and needs assessment. This position is required to demonstrate daily a high level of sales proficiency both in person and over the phone. Incumbents in this position are required to process loan applications and communicate lending decisions in a manner that ensures loans are delivered according to fair lending practices. This position provides customers with investment information, and makes product recommendations based on customer suitability; and ensures compliance with related policies, procedures and regulations in order to effectively serve investment customers, increase market share and generate fee income.

Essential Job Functions

  • Achieve assigned sales goals for deposits and loan referrals.
  • Building a relationship with customers, acting in a consultative role and establishing a follow-up plan to ensure the continuing relationship thereby enhancing customer retention.
  • Identify sales strategies to target both existing and new customers to gain additional business and attract new profitable relationships.
  • Reach out to prospective banking customers and establish business relationships.
  • Greet customers when they enter the branch and establish a professional friendly rapport.
  • Evaluate customers' financial needs, provide banking solutions.
  • Open new checking, savings, and other deposit accounts for customers.
  • Manage customer accounts, including opening and closing accounts and process transactions.
  • Provide ongoing banking relationship services with existing clients.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and resolve issues with banking products or services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Perform all aspects of new account opening procedures for all bank products/services.
  • Answer customer inquiries, make appropriate financial solutions and recommendations and assist with problem resolution.
  • Perform customer service functions such as check orders, change of address, return mail processing, supersede signature cards, and other account maintenance changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer information as well as Bank proprietary information.
  • Identify sales opportunities to cross-sell bank products and services to ensure customers' financial goals are met.
  • Provide quality personalized customer service, maintain frequent customer contact to expand relationships and ensure customer retention.
  • Maintain open communication with other departments of the bank and make referrals as appropriate (e.g. Lending Officers, Relationship Managers, Branch Managers, etc.).
  • Proactively support branch new business promotions.
  • Perform deposit, withdrawal and other teller transactions.
  • Reconcile and balance teller cash drawer.

Secondary Job Functions

  • Process outgoing wires.
  • Essential functions of Safe Deposit box (e.g. entry, opening, maintenance).
  • Assist customers with problem resolution.
  • Assist in ATM balancing.
  • Detect and report fraudulent or suspicious activities by completing BSA reporting as required, Currency Transactions Reports or Monetary Instrument Reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory compliance with thorough understanding of all aspects of BSA, including but not limited to AML, USA Pat Act and Customer Identification Program.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Universal Banker or equivalent. Minimum of 12 months of new accounts or relevant banking experience is preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of cash handling, customer service, or sales experience.
  • Ability to exchange non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate
  • Ability to speak Mandarin or Cantonese preferred

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Post-secondary certificate or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of retail product philosophy, policy, procedures, documentation and systems
  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Effective selling and referral skills
  • Strong mathematical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
