Job Description

A leading contractor with over 140 years of history in heavy civil, highway, site development and grading, concrete paving, and bridge construction is seeking a Senior Estimator to join their growing team. Candidate must be willing to travel within local area.

ESSENTIAL ESTIMATING FUNCTIONS:

  • Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with team to confirm complete scope.
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information & pricing.
  • Oversee analysis of past performance on projects.
  • Assist in oversight of the historical cost database and bid management and estimating software.
  • Prepare instructions to bidders, bid form and other bid solicitation information as required.
  • Perform and/or manage the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets.
  • Prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
  • Review general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, hoisting plans, site logistics and other exhibits as prepared by Operations.
  • Ensure the flow of project information is maintained and documented.
  • Review and/or manage the review and scoping of specialty contractor bids.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in civil engineering, construction management, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of strong industry experience specific to heavy civil construction, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Proficient in computer software programs used in estimating with particular emphasis on HCSS estimating software. (HCSS HeavyBid, bidTABS.net, AASHTOWARE Expedite, AASHTOWARE Project Bids, Microsoft Project, BlueBeam, SQL based Accounting Software, AgTEK and other industry recognized takeoff software, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent mathematical, estimating, financial analysis, budgeting, purchasing, and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with professional and polished communication style to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, clients, and government agencies.
  • Independent sales strengths for presentations and project pursuits.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
  • Strong work ethic with integrity and commitment to compliance and team environment.
